OK here goes. bought the game "history channel battle of britain" up-dated it using internal up-dater,(168 MEG!)
After searching around I found That the sim is really
Warbirds 3! After MANY Attempts at getting support at activison / ient I Give up , and try for some help in the public domain.(they still sell it!..But dont support it!!!)
SOOO Here goes... 1, Is this thing That I have really WB3?
2, Can I play on-line with other WB3 Owners?
4, Is there A full manual For WB3 / HC BOB (there is no manual on the cd) I have only been able to find manual for WB2 Not WB3, and it is not much more help than the "readme" That came with the game!!! The help system in game is limited to Key Functions. No real help there!
5, Where is the #@*[&* Mission Builder?
6, How do i access the AC.carrier opps/Missions, That the readme refers to? There are some .txt and .off files in the
*\\offln\missions folder called Carrier Practice.off and
Carrier Practice.txt But they Dont show up in the game!
ANYWHERE!!! I understand that this is a mostly "on Line" Type game, and that this is A mostly on line Type site,
But Since I can get nothing from IEN or Activision in the way of support, I am hoping some good natured and learned soul out there can shed some light on any of questions...
Thanks in advance... BLU OUT...

Howdy blumagoo,

First a little background. I'm matt (the lead designer of warbirds and ta-da History Channel: Battel of Britain)... When we first got "the job" to make Battle of Britain for Activision, it was agreed that we'd have A. mounds of support from the History Channel and B. about two years to make the game. However when the contracts were all signed and everyone "upstairs" was happy, the word came down from on high that we had exactly four months to make the game, all calls and emails to the History Channel went unanswered EXCEPT the one where we requested their game startup ad graphics. Hehehe... yah, good stuff, good times. What you have there is "mostly" Warbirds with a different "wrapper" on it. The campeign stuff is "the game" essentially. Once you've been the through that a few times you've pretty much experienced everything that got made for that particular box game. Now, as far as training, carrier stuff, what you'll need to do is go ahead and wonder over to the downloads section here at Furball, startup a new installation of Warbirds and download/install that. We have some pretty good offline training stuff in there with more/better stuff on the way (currently in closed beta).

As far as who supports BoB, it was supposed to be Activision but they abdicated on that note sending all questions to a non-existant iENT address (Sweet!) but we do handle questions about it. Email wbtech@ient.com and you should get a response fairly quickly.

Hope that answers your questions, and I hope you'll consider getting a 2 week free account to try out the online portion of our game. Where it's RL human vs. RL human is when our game really shines.

Matt,Thanks For the Quick answer! Much more than I got from IENT!!! Sooo It's Back to the downloads drawing board ea? Man ! after the last one...168 MEG. at 3.0K per second
to update HCBOB. Thought I was through for a while!
No Way to enable those carrier ops. in this thing then ea? and no damn manual! Man How do they sleep at night! espcially knowing that this thing is still up for sale at thier website! Thanks again for youre help though,I have been mostly an "offline" type sim'er As I pretty much suck, and dont even make a verry good target for experienced players. So For now I think I'll Just re-install CFS 2 And give it a go,
as I am intregued with the idea of working from a carrier instead of land based, for a change... Take care, BLU OUT...

This got me to thinking about it and I tried installing the CD, updating etc. and realized that our new UI code is pooching the old Campeign stuff. Going to yank it and try to rebuild it to NOT fail on mission save and fix the graphics, add some sounds, etc. Then maybe we can re-release the campeign as a mission pack or something. Would give the guys who bought BoB some value for the money anyway.

Oh, and I am iENT... well... an employee at any rate.
