Mat, I'm attempting to make some skins for my squad (VF-101). I'm actually attempting to make the skins with VF-10 markings and I'm running into a prolem finding templates for specific a/c. I need templates for the F4F, F6F and F4U's.

I have one skin started on the F6F however trying to work over someone else work seems to be causing more work and frustration than is necessary.

Also, in the fuse tga I'm working with I'm trying to have a single white strip on the tail and it keeps migrating to the cowling?

Quite a few of the early WBIII models have severe mapping problems. I.e. mirroring, warping, texture "duplication/migration" from one part of the aircraft to an other not related one etc.

F6F is one of those (there are quite a few others too), unfortunately.

You'll just have to find a way around those problem areas. :(

One trick to find out which part mirrors/duplicates where is to make a coded grid layer for the fuse and wing TGAs and then take screenies of the plane from all aspects, and study those. This IS a lot of work though (been there done that, not with the F6F though).

I'll attach a 1024x1024 grid for you if you want to take that road :)
Hmm, too large for this site. Pick it up from here (http://www.bucket.pp.fi/fusegrid.jpg).

OK I've got it to work.:D Working with a 512X512 template, the F6F, I now have a working VF10 skin. I've eliminated the white on the tail migrating to the cowl, but still seem to get migration from one side to the other. Nose-art is in place and I think is as sharp as it will get with 512X512.

I'm still looking for templates for the F4F and F4U? Isn't there a source somwhere for these templates:rolleyes:

Tried to attach an screenshot, but that doesn't seem to work in here.

Glad you got your F6F to work for you.

Care to let others have a copy? I want one. Can you send me the fuse.tga and wing.tga?

QUESTION for anyone who really knows:
will a JPG keep the same quality as a TGA file?
JPG is smaller in size, so answer is no, right?

iart7, attempted to send you a screen shot of my VF10 skin. Since I didn't hear anything back I guess you didn't get it. I'll attach a link below so you guys can see it and critique it.

http://members.cox.net/clydew/VF-101/VF10_F6F5

I'm not sure why it shows up so dark online.

Still unable to attach an image here:mad: Posting rules say I can, but I'm unable to attach anything so far.

I'm still trying to find further templates, so if anyone knows of a source..............please pass it along.

Hey Wilz,

(clydew?)

I wrote to you saying the wing.tga did not download properly, I D/L it several times and each time i tried to open it, it crashed my Preview (picture viewer) program. The Hellcat shown above is really nice. I wonder how many other folks have done personal versions of the "cat". IMO, your colors are perfect. It brings back memories of airplane models I made decades ago. It doesn't look too dark to me. Maybe, after months in the Pacific sun, in Warbirds of course, fading will occur.

I don't know about the Xaero link above, but since you got the "cat" template from his website, you probably don't need the link below.
http://furball.warbirdsiii.com/xaero/wb3_templates.html

This link to the F4U template from Xaero worked for me, but the 4k file did not work (it did not unzip):
http://idisk.mac.com/yakkernak/Public/xaero_f4u1_template.zip

PS: send me your latest "CAT" targa files. It really is awesome!

Hello WILZ,

I have a high res wing and fuse of f4u1d called white5. It's not a template, it's a very good quality skin. I don't know who did it and I don't remember where I got it. But it might help you.

Whoever did WHITE5, can I give Wilz a copy? Was that you Xaero? I'm sending Wilz a copy of the fuse and wing.

Thanks, Art

Hey, Wilz:

Thanks for the VF-101 skin. It's really great. I found some places that won't shift around (for the right side of plane). Also, I re-worked the PILOT! Hope you like it. I'll send the FUSE to you tomorrow.

Check it out: http://www.iart7.com/WARBIRDS/gallery3.html
Scroll down about halfway and you'll see your F6F with the handsomest pilot ever.

After many attempts I finally gave up on the right side. I got ahold of a F4U template and have the color and nose art done. Hopefully I'll get some time soon and work on it some more.
Thanks for good words on the F6F, for a first attempt at skinning it came out pretty good.

Yes I did, thanks. I see you got the right side to behave better than me. Actually if you don't mind I'll use your fuse file in place of mine.

Got to work on the F4U some yesterday, but I didn't like the way it came out. So, I think I'll just start the whole thing over again.

iart7, checked out your web page and must admit I was suprised to see "moe" adorning the nose of a F6F. Cool stuff. Did you do a acm then cmeye to get in that close?

BTW, I goofed up and sent you the wrong corsair skin. I'll send the correct one.

what do you mean by "MOE"?
CMEYE?
ACM?

not too familiar with these terms, sorry. extreme NOOB (that one i know) -- that's me.

What I did was:

1. use your excellent skin for VF101 #20, with my new pilot (it's really me, but i need more touch-up work on the mouth).
2. pressed outside view (control-e on the Mac)
3. pressed keypad keys to get plane to face me
4. pressed ] key (square bracket) to zoom in
5. pressed z key to zoom in even more

"moe" is the guy with the scycle. It comes from VF10 who's motto was "mow em down smartly". However mow isn't a name so it was changed to "moe".

If you take an ACM of a flight you can type in the buffer .cmeye and then be able to move around the planes to view the action from different angles. ACM is a movie of a flight in WB's. It's saved in pkf and pkr files in your main directory. Check the help files for ACM.

I'll have to try the bracket keys and see if they work on a PC. Using the Z & V keys you can only zoom in so much.

I'd like to be able to record movies of my WB flights. ACM? does it work with Macs? I'm using WB 2005 version.

btw, if I update to the beta folder, will it put in 2006?

right now, i have the new SPIT and the T6, Midway and Randolph, SA. is this 2006?

PS: when i fly at Midway, all the island earth is gone, only water with buildings and trees floating, but no dirt/earth/land. what gives? is this a offline problem?

Is FTP site still down?
