a very early stage, it's hard to tell anything about it for now, since I guess it's wip.
a few things are very obvious for me: first, your colors are looking too much saturated and the second one is the missing antialliasing on the panel lines. additional your rivets are way to dark.
since you mentioned simmerspaintshop, have you seen the tutorial about weathering? there're some really nice images from a finnish hurri :)

here's the direct link:

hope this helps,

eretrc, I use gimp:) I am a graphic designer by trade and I hate adobe, becuase I think it is over priced and it's not changed whatsoever...I just don't think it's worth the money...

-e-b-o- yes it was an early pic since then the "thompson screws" not rivets have been given thier uniquenness and are no loger black:) also yes the green and brown have been de-saturated with a layer of light burnts sienna to make them a lil more"together" and tone things down a bit:) as for the anitaliasing I am a lil lost... by what you mean, I know what anitaliasing is and they are it's just I built the lines up...gimp specifically gives control of that option...and I am actually reading that mentioned article as I do it and look at my refernces. it's hard to tell how much should weather becuase this is a BOB hurri and it was flown heavily and alot...and the plate I have of this Aircraft has very little weathering, and teh plates do show weathering. these aricraft were well maintained and what I can tell form the kind photo's you linked for me that Hurricane is in a sad state of affairs. I dunno if Mcknights bird became that bad..I look at this like modelling you have to research teh plane alot and knwo about not just the plane but the history it was part of and the situation it flew in. In some situations planes wethered greatley, while in others they did not...also ebviroemnt has alot to do with it, USN aricraft flying over salt water had a different life the a Lagg-3 in Southern Russia.

I appreciate you honest criticism and I will keep you' all updated...I think i will do the update photo's at simmers'...

Thankyou

after a 'lil more work, eretrc this is not easy, I use these programs alot and so for me I know how they work, they take time to learn, also you may want to get some art books on light and shade. Also REFERENCE MATERIAL....anyhow...don't give up:)...

Ok here's an update, I am also goign to makea picture asisted tutorial on skinning to show some ways to people interested how to do it right the first time, form a beginners perspective...anyhow...

REASEARCH!!!! REASEARCH!!!! REASEARCH!!!! REASEARCH!!!! this is key if you do not research the plane 100% I really don't think it's worth doing...after starting my right side i came upon more linedrawings. also look at pictures..
-The Hurricane had two types of wheels; a four spoke and a five spoke "spade" design. The latter(five spoke"spade") beaing common on earlier Hurricanes with the Watts two blade wooden prop...
-SeaHurricanes had a treaded tire while land based Hurricanes did not.
-also there's a page dedictaed to WW2 Canadian Aces and there are some great pic's. One of the pics has McKnight beside his plane and it clearly shows the fourspoke wheel for even more pics I have all the pics of restored Hurricanes doen by Hawker Restoration Ltd in the UK
so with that in mind..the incorrect wheel was removed...er..painted over... The Hub lock and cap bolts were brass...

after more research i realized my original reference ofr the skeleton on McKnights plane was wrong the head was more round and there was more shading and detail the eyes more spooky...time to redo the skeleton...also the scyth on the right side was done a lil diffrently as not to interfere with the lock mechanism on the emergancy door latch..

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j78/cprb/skel-1.jpg

last but not least Markings were resized due to the sky band....now for those well verse in teh Battle Of britian will notice this plane is after the campaing....sky bands and spinners were issued in November teh plane I am doing is from December....before then the prop was black and there was no sky band and the LE on the right side was bigger and further away from the Roundel.

Also I have noticed that the were inner ribs on the back near teh top and added these...also intakes were added...and the proper panels around the wing...I duno what will happen to these as the wing on the WB's Hurri is not accurate...but I felt I had to ad the RIGHT details...

This is not done as some rivest have to be added and I play round with the worn metal areas to look right...

hoprefully this Hurricane will be done soon..when I dunno..so please don't ask...or I will slow down;)

You call that weathering? Take a look at this photo and you'll want to go back to school. Dig the plexiglass!!!

Kid, just kidding! Keep up the good work. It takes me about 100 hours before i'm finished with a skin I like. Mine is getting closer, but it's like infinity, you cut it in half and then cut that in half, but it never will get to 0 (zero) readiness.

I may do a Martlet next... Hear that Eretrc?

Hey, look at this skinning grid someone posted, looks like something I tried last plane I did!! eerie!

Thankyou for the compliments:)

I was thinking of doing a Martlet actually months ago I have some EXCELLENT colour plates if you want them but it's for a Martlet 4 (Wildcat Mk IV) which is very similar to an FM2..basically the same thing. I think and early war Martlet would be great. If you didn't know there's going to be a TOBRUK map comming up soon it was advertised on the S3 forum. which means all we need is some SeaHurricanes...which is just a skin basically...for now the real one had an arrestor hook and would be a new 3d model it also ahd various other lil things added to it such as catapult linkage, spinner change, and the correct tires..which were treaded...also it would be nice if there was Fairey Fulmers and Blackburn Skuas and of course the Fairy Swordfish.

As for the grid...Asso I see!!!:) very cool actually i found my notes ondgraph scaling an image for technical purposes and I may just give it a shot myself:)

actually the have and SBD too, which is a plane I have alwasy loved....and it's actually and uber cool plane in WB's....one of my favourite "Figthters"...love the high wongload...I dunno I am jsut a sucker for the under dog with balls....dunno what it is...anyhow I have alwasy wanted to do a SBD-2 skin in the preware colours of teh USMC who was the mjor user of that mark....you want colour...that'sll give you some colour:)

as for the FM picture if I were you I would get yer ZiIp Disk or CD burner and copy every one of those images theyare very imformative it looks lieka jungle wreck to me....but it shows the chromate green interior. I will be honest i have tons of books but the Internet has become a greats ource for infor these pics are all going into my F4F/FM2 folder...I have not yet built the Tamiya Wildcat even though it has some inaccuracies. I have however built the Accurate Minatures SBD series....
