Howdy all,
Me and kclion have been working on a skin for the spad 13 the 27th historical to be exact but it cant be viewed offline.
is there a viewer we can use like the one for the P-38 so the skin can be finished? would like to submit the work to PDC for approval, DoA needs some variety like WBs has ;) cant let them have all the fun....

how about texturing a plane that you can see in the game, just for using the time until there's a possibility texturing the spad? there're a lot of planes left who would look pretty good in a new dress :D

just curious about that Spad, okie ... what kind of work did you and kclion do with the skin? do you have any screenshots?

it's been a few months since your post, but DID YOU CONTINUE working on it? what does it look like?

im just learning the photoshop pro 7 i have and since noone responded about a viewer and spad13 cant view skins in offline mode i cant make any screenshots, but your welcome at what i have as you have more knowledge than I.

Sometimes more knowledge can be a bad thing! he he he!

I didnt actually do the skin but yes i still have it, its mostly complete .... and let someone with experience finish it ... so i can see it offline ;)
who did it? mostly complete?

are you doing it with a template? i have a template and MIGHT want to help finish it (depending on what you've done with it already and the quality of your work)

ONE MAJOR problem might be what ebo said. you can't see it offline? I tried an experiment last night and it didn't show up offline either. I might be able to study the situation a bit and try a thing or two, but don't hold out any hope. I'm putting all this communication on the Furball DOA Forum, so others can see it and maybe help too. E-B-O- is the real expert and knows more than I do, and if he recommends doing a different plane, you might have to do that.

Anyway, send me what you've done and I'll look at it. Not being able to see it offline, as E-B-O- said, makes it very hard, but I'll not say it's impossible, not yet anyway. I HAVE TO SEE what you guys have done ... then maybe I'll point my lance at that windmill. Get my email from my profile and send me what you've done.

I think I have some good news and I think I have some bad news.

Using the work you did on the fuse, I did a vfc and something bad happened... the spad13_2.vfc
I created did NOT show up in the game viewer and dropdown viewer menu did not show anything.
So putting the .vfc file in the PDC folder DID NOT WORK. Could be the internal game code does not
allow for a .vfc of the Spad ... yet!

However, when I replaced the spad13.vfc file that is the default Spad13 lo-res plane with
the new spad13_2.vfc I created, the plane DID show up. I flew it and took some screenshots for you.

So, you will be able to use the new #15 Luke Spad if you want, provided it's okay for me to
continue VFC-ing this plane for you. I want PDC or IEN to give permission first before I can send
you a VFC file. If they don't want me to, I have to put the brakes on this project.

Maybe it doesn't take much to make the Spad13 VFC-able offline in the game, but I don't know yet.

PS: I got a nice propeller and struts. I'll do a cool machine gun. I think any default Spad is brighter than usual,
so the .tga files need to be darker IMO. The wings seem to be offset, as you can see in the screenshots.
Don't do any more work on the fuse, but you might do the wing.tga if you want. I hope the wing shot
shows you what you need so you can continue. The photos below are pre-beta-prelim work and some
adjustments still need to be made on the fuse. Example of another kind of problem: the rudder on the
left side is red-white-blue, but the right side of the rudder is blue-white-red. So maybe the rudder will have to be
one color. Oops!, just checked my plane model photos and found some with b-w-r/b-w-r and some with r-w-b/b-w-r.
Do you mind if I use a darker shade of green on the fuse and wing. I have some reference photos to show
you, but wait until I put them on my web page. Stay tuned, Okie!

PS: nice job so far!

Do what ya can with it, I would just like too see my squads skin on its historical ride ;) that and I dont like the current skin on the 13 anyway.
I noticed it has the same prob as the p-38 skin as its reversing everything on the opposite side backwards. not sure how too remedy that.
Ill see what =geff= has on his PDC web, if he still has it up.

I'd be glad to continue. So you want me to work on wing?

The words on the right side (or left) will have to be reversed... can't be fixed. I'm doing a nice cockpit (out-of-plane view). The prop is awesome. Little by little, it will get done. I'll be working on a website for pics over the holiday.

As for getting a VFC file to you which will replace the default skin, I have to have permission. Can i do it, Target? Anyone else able to give permission? How do PDC members feel?

You mentioned =geff=, let me know what you find. PDC website? What's that?

I'm gonna go to South Padre Island for the next few days, so ALL YOU FOLKS can get a break from my posts! :veg:

Absolutely awesome  saw it on your web too very nice job, one thing you may not have known, the red, white and blue stripe on the fuse is also on the top of the top left wing. I can send you an example if you like.
It was like this on the 27ths Neiuport 28s as well.

I believe the Frank Luke plane is #26 and I've changed it already. I found some reference pics and models.
These show a checkered pattern on the top left wing. I'll post them on my website as well. And the front cowl
is blue on his plane. The red-white-blue stripe on the fuse is seen on the #15 plane. I can easily take it off
if you want, since it is not seen on #26. (It seems he flew more than one plane, so whatever version you
want is okay with me). I think #15 must be the plane of his close friend who died before Luke died. What
was his name? Luke was heartbroken about it.

Keep in mind, you might only be able to get screenshots (hundreds of 'em!) unless we get permission to get you
the .vfc file. It would be great if this plane could go into PDC for public downloads, but don't count on it.

If your squadmates, relatives, friends, congressmen, etc. care to post comments, it wouldn't hurt (hint-hint). ;)

15 was Harold Hartney the Co of the 27th and later the CO of the 1st Pursuit Group.

Frank flew many planes because he was alays coming back with his plane so damaged they had too issue him another.

I like the 15 but if you want too make Franks too by all means the more the better. Frank was more famous of course.
Harold Hartney and Eddie Rickenbacher had many meetings about tactics and such and even afew meetings about Frank too ;) Eddie was impressed by his flying skills and was going too try and recruit him into the 94th but Frank was killed before that ever happened.

Oh and unofficially I was accepted into the PDC months ago but because things are so slow and =geff= being MIA i was never officially inducted. but i would love too have the VFC

Hey Okie,

Anybody have "First to the Front"?

I'm 95% finished with the Spad skin. I'm in the process of finalizing the i.d. numbers for each plane. If anyone
can tell me where there might be a listing of the serial numbers with pilots, I'd appreciate it a lot. I'm currently
waiting on a response from folks at The Aerodrome website. So far this is the data I have:

Frank Luke
#26
Ser. 15155
P.U. ____?
P.C. ____?
checkered stripe on wing
blue cowl
Eagle logo on fuse
tan wheel cover

=====================================

Harold Hartney
#15
Ser. 15202 ?
P.U. ____?
P.C. ____?
red-white-blue stripe on wing?
checkered cowl?
Eagle logo with r-w-b ribbon on fuse
ying-yang on wheel cover

============================

James Knowles (for Kraxus)
#5 (white)
Ser. #15251
P.U. 145
P.C. 110
white stripe on wing
blue "kicking mule" logo on fuse
red cowl
tan wheel covers
