View Full Version : F4f-4?????????????
Could someone from the PDC respond and let me know what the status of the F4F-4 (that iart7 submitted)? We put a lot of time and energy into the skin and would like to know the status.
Also, why doesn't the PDC have a forum for players wishing to contribute skins? Presently there doesn't seem to be any communication with the PDC as a group. Possibly a posting for the requirements necessary for a skin. There may be a wealth of talented players who would like to participate but have no idea of what is required.

Patience, Wilz!
Patience...
All things come to him who waits.
...why doesn't the PDC have a forum for players wishing to contribute skins?
Furball is the forum, all PDC members write in the Furball Warbirds forum or DOA forum. They do communicate. You and I got lots of help and advice when we did the "grim reaper" F6F-5 and F4F-4. Not all are as active as EBO, or Kossu in this aspect of the game, but to each his own.
Do they want new members of PDC? Maybe not... maybe this group has to be selective. There's nothing special about being a member, from what i can tell. They don't want the PDC forum getting overwhelmed with trivial questions about "how do I put skins in the game" or "what program is the best to do graphics".
I write a lot of posts. I feel VERY GUILTY about perhaps writing too many forum posts. Maybe I'm hogging the forum too much. Maybe I put too many pics. I can't login to the Total Sims Forum, I've tried registering to the MacAttack forum. They don't want me.
What pre-requisites are needed to become a member?
I'm a new member and don't know everything, but in MY OPINION:
1. extensive skill in PhotoShop or other graphic program
2. use of layers, knowledge of light, shadow, metals, fabric, colors, etc.
3. attention to detail, down to the rivets and micro-rivets
4. attention to historical accuracy
5. no fantasy planes, AT ALL! -- has to be used in wartime
6. User Policy Agreement
7. You have to give them: resume, references, first-born
.............just kidding.............

Mmmmmm, micro-rivets... :D
Anyway, your F4F was submitted and voted in with flying colors ( ;) ) quite awhile ago, and waits conversion to online form.
Unfortunately there is only one (1) person in the whole PDC who has the tools to do that, and RL seems to be interfering with his PDC "duties". Sorry about that.

Thanks for the reply Kossu. I was wondering what happened to the Kitty? Guess I'll just have to be patient.
OK, this is the forum for the PDC. I would like to thank those members of the PDC who have attempted to direct my activities. As someone without a lot of knowledge of graphics programs your assistance is appreciated. I have a few more skins in the works, but like others my plate is full and they will have to wait awhile.
The real frustration comes from the templates (or lack of), migration of art from one side to the other. Some templates only have one wing while others have all four surfaces. I know you guys aren't responsible for that and it's just something I have to live with. But as an old grumpy man I get frustrated.
Once again, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no yer not a grumpy old man, from what I am learning from working in Blender you can create a base template that wil lay things out the same wya no matter what. so with much better programs I personally don't see why everyt template is the same. It's just mapping the skin to the adjacent body part....I so loved that prewar F4F-3 scheme..to bad I can't find a single historical peice on a prewar engagement....

I teach 13 and 14 year-old kids and every once in a while, I have to bend the rules a little. Like keeping the boys in the room 3 extra minutes when the others go out to lunch. Or giving the pretty gals a tad higher grade on the report card "just because".
Everything in WB CANNOT be 100% historically accurate. You can't relive every aspect of WWII. To all players: this is a Simulation, not reality. From the length of the mission to the names of the pilots, something is NOT Quite perfect. The F-86 is a great plane to have in WBIII but, I wouldn't want to give it up, would you because it didn't fly combat missions in WWII? If things are to be as historically accurate as some want, we need to have:
1. approx. 15 seconds of ammo
2. no such thing as "spawning"
3. and the list can go on and on
Anyway, I think if the Planeskin is accurate, if the quality is good, put it in.
At the time of Pearl Harbor, these planes were with VF41, USS RANGER, in the Atlantic. I don't know if they had much action in the "Neutrality Patrol", but I'm sure a few bullets were fired at submarines or whatever. The world was at War, even if for a while, the US was "neutral".
Speaking of F86's, that's another project I need to start on. My dad flew them in Korea with the 36th Fighter Squadron. After being a navigator in WWII he jumped at the chance to become a pilot in Korea. He flew F80's, F84's and F86's during that time period. The F86 was one of the sexiest planes every built.
BTW iart7 I'm in your corner on the F4F-3. That is one really nice skin. You've got my vote.

... one more thought on my prev. post ...
In My Opinion... for what it's worth, WBIII is a chance to re-play battles and missions. If it were to be always historically accurate, then kills, number of pilots in a squadron, time in the air, and a whole lot of other aspects would have to be accurate.
Instead, this game gives us a chance to play "WHAT IF?" with history. It is a simulation of what could have happened. Therefore, it is more a new look or Fictional view of history, and not a RE-ENACTMENT of history. This opens up a lot more ways to play the "game", IMHO, and more options for skinning the planes. It's all about a Willing Suspension of Disbelief.
but this is all just my OPINION!
Still waiting, any idea when we can see it in the game?
Waiting, waiting, waiting.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................and still waiting.

sorry WILZ, you have to wait a bit more.
SAMART reported in after vacation that he's having RL problems and needs a bit more time to resolve. he's aware of the files and will work on them soon.
files coming:
f4f3 yellow wing
f4f4 grim reaper
f6f5 alex vraciu
if you want me to try an F86, it's one of those i want to work on next.
i wonder if there's a template or even any chance of it being accepted in PDC?
ANYBODY reading this thread, I need help ... I researched the Australian plane called a Boomerang. It seemed to have a dreadful accident rate. Is it truly a lemon plane? I want to use it in a skin for the F6F5 but am not so sure it was any good in combat. Can't decide on decal ID numbers or "nose art". Any comments on the Boomerang (http://www.adf-serials.com/gallery/Boomerang-A46-30)?

The first enemy contact was made on May 16 1943, when Boomerangs from No 84 Sqn intercepted and drove off three Betty bombers. For many months, the Boomerangs successfully carried out many similar sorties until, eventually, they were replaced by Kittyhawks and Spitfires. Relegated to the army co-operation role with Nos 4 and 5 Sqn the Boomerangs soon established a high reputation for effective strikes throughout New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Borneo; particularly so in co-ordinated operations with RNZAF Corsairs.

Hey I art I happen to be the man you want about the CAF13 Boomerang I bought a very limited edition 1/48 cottage industry a while ago and have wnated to do a superdetail job on the model...it's pudgy lines hooked me.....and have thoroughly researched the plane....
I have tons of pictures and info on the plane and am in correspondance with a man who rebuilt, owns and flies one in Austrilia...
The Boomerang was not a bad plane...but it was too slow to be a foghter....most of the plane losses occured in ther TAF Co-Op missions of strafing and laying smoke....as you can tell from the Phillipines Map in WB's the Japanese threw up a lot of ack during the war...
They were tought and nimble little planes....
they aslo had some great nose art options
you know where you can find me:) hey you found where that spinner for my Hurricane is yet?
Yes folks PLEASE be patient, some of our volunteers are having some REAL LIFE challenges and the actual IEN WB's crew is small and stretched beyond thier limits right now....it's frustrating for the PDC too....but we are just being patient....it can be trying at times...but hopefully worth it:)
cheers
