WarBirds Wiki is a free site with infos, articles, manuals, news, etc. which can be changed by anyone who register to the WarBirds Wiki. If the players use it frequently then it will be the biggest ressource for informations about WarBirds. A living WarBirds encyclopedia!
http://www.macattack.org/wb-wiki (domain may change in some weeks)
Since years you guys post so much useful and interesting informations in the forums which is all lost in time when it get's old. Articles written in the WarBirds Wiki can be edited by all players everyday to be up to date. They can be found in an easy way and the powerfull wiki engine gives you endless solutions to create usefull structures for all the data. Everything regarding WarBirds is allowed there, Tips, Newbie Guides, Pictures, Infos about Planes, Weapons, Events, Software, Hardware, Arenas etc. also Historical Stuff or Links.
In most cases When you post something in a Forum thread you will get just some answers and within days the thread will be "lost" and most people won't find it anymore because it's old and far away from the new postings - on the WarBirds Wiki another player will answering by EDITING your work with additional or new informations or just by correcting little errors. Every article has it's own discussion thread to be used by the editors if they need to. Articles can be listed in categories or quickly found by searching. The nature of a wiki is that many sites have links to each other. When you write an article about bombing and you think that it would be nice if sometimes someone writes an article about "dfuse bombs" then you just mark the word "dfuse bombs" (where they appear in your text) as a link. When some weeks later someone really writes an article called "dfuse bombs" the link will get active even if the other author didn't ever visited your article!
But it is even more: It is a database where you can find infos about all the other players and squads! Even pictures of them! Just type in the callsign and (if he is allready in the database) you will see "who shot you down". :D
You can search players by year of birth: Just click on the year (e.g. 1966) and all players born in 1966 will be listed.
You can search players in your region: just click on the city and all players in this city or county will be listed... send him a message and maybe you two will meet for a beer.
This search works also for country and occupation and you can even search for Mac or PC Players.
You want to know which players are real pilots? No problem, click on "players by occupation", then "pilots". You can even list military pilots only.
It would be great if you could just enter your callsign and some small informations about you in the WarBirds Wiki Database. Also uploading a photo of you would be great. You will help making the WarBirds Wiki entertaining for you and others this way.
The WarBirds Wiki just started some days ago and it's not much content online yet. If you add some other may follow.
Here a really good profile with a lot of information about the player with the callsign "wizkid":

added a facelift and dynamic content to the Main Page yesterday.
Next event - now you can read about the actual next event there (i could need someone from the event team supporting me early with data)
Today's featured article
Today's featured player profile
Actual Arena numbers (i love php)
It shows actual Map in Main and WW2 arena (would be great if i could get a kind of roadmap for the map changes)
WarBirds Wiki statistics
There are 1,643 total pages in the database. This includes "talk" pages, pages about WarBirds Wiki, minimal "stub" pages, redirects, and others that probably don't qualify as content pages. Excluding those, there are 121 pages that are probably legitimate content pages.
There have been a total of 6,330 page views, and 1,387 page edits since the wiki was setup. That comes to 0.84 average edits per page, and 4.56 views per edit.

Umm... yes please.... I made like 4 different pages... Have no idea if any of them "took" or what's supposed to be in them.
Give me a link to a page I can edit, and I'll go put in a picture of a nice naked lady or something. :)

Once again @ all people who want to write something, but have not the heart to do so.
There is nothing to fear. If you make some faults or destroy some text, there is a rollback option so i am able to restore lost articles :D

flubbr, did daddy= and =dwgr= ask you to remove thier names fromt he articles i posted they wrote? because i put thier names there to give credit where credit is due, and was given the ok by the authors to add the articles.......
just wondering why thier names were removed on the 21st
flubby
01-23-2006, 02:38 PM
Oh sorry york, I did not knew, that this was important.
And i do not know if we should write down there article with a copyright, because the intention of a wiki is, that everyone can write there and all the information has should stay under GFDL that means everyone can spread and alter this text.
So it makes no sence, to put in the names of one author.
Sorry about that, but read here pls: http://www.warbirds-wiki.com/php/index.php?title=WarBirds_Wiki:General_disclaimer
If the above named persons don´t agree this disclaimer, we have to remove the articles.

i just added thier names to daddy= and =dwgr= because thats who wrote them,, the only one copyrighted is crutch and vic posted the copyright himself...
flubby
01-23-2006, 04:07 PM
Ah now i understand.
So maybe we should make a new sction called "Excellent Articles" ore something like this. With write protected writings from people like dawger and so on. In that case its clear, that these articles should not be altered.
IŽll talk with vic about that if you agree.

Hello York,
can you please look at the training manuals, you wrote down in the wiki and see, if there have been made any changes? If yes pls correct them and then i will move them to the "excellent manuals" section, where they will be protected, so no one else can overwrite them.
